Corporate headquarters for the men's apparel brand at Broadway & 29th — modern, sophisticated, playful, with custom millwork and a pop-up retail display space.
Mack Weldon needed a new corporate headquarters for the popular men's apparel and lifestyle brand that echoes the clothing line's own sensibility — modern, sophisticated, yet playful.
Through diagrammatic exploration and modeling, I developed several schemes resulting in a hybrid program that met the client's expansion needs. The gut renovation features custom trapezoidal multi-purpose tables, workspaces for designers and tech staff, and a pop-up retail display space.
Translating brand into space: Extracting patterns and palettes from Mack Weldon's product line and logo, and reinterpreting them in ways that could be introduced to wall surfaces, reception, and conference room glazing — the brand as a spatial experience, not just a veneer.
Designing for collaborative culture: Mack Weldon's informal, collaborative office culture inspired a plan accommodating a range of functions — open common areas, enclosed meeting rooms, and a custom millwork collaborative table between workspace and kitchenette for breakaway meetings.
Diagrammatic thinking: Using diagrammatic exploration as a primary design tool — rather than moving to plans immediately — produced a hybrid program that preserved fluidity while giving the private rooms and kitchenette their due square footage.
